How it works

Understand code, don’t memorize it

Every exercise is a scrambled program. Your job is to put it in order and figure out which lines shouldn’t be there.

  1. 1

    Read the prompt

It tells you what the program should do, not how.

  2. 2

    Sort the blocks

Drag each line into its slot, or tap it to move it up.

  3. 3

    Check

You get 3 attempts. When you win, you see the solution and why it works.

pythonDifficulty 1 · 1 extra
total = price
total += price

With = the total is overwritten on every pass, so in the end it would only hold the last price.

There’s always something extra

Every exercise comes with one to three extra blocks, depending on the difficulty: classic beginner mistakes. Spotting them is what makes you really read the code.

Difficulty depends on the concept, not on the number of lines. And the harder it is, the more it pays.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Write to us at carlosgongorar50@gmail.com.

Is it free?

Yes. Streakode is completely free: lessons, daily challenge and exercises.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. The courses start at "What programming is" and each lesson only uses what you’ve already seen. The exercises don’t ask you to write code from memory: they ask you to understand what each line does.

What is a Parsons exercise?

A program with its lines scrambled. You drag them into place, or tap them to move them up, and leave out the extra blocks: one to three, depending on the difficulty. It’s a way of practicing used in programming courses because it makes you read and reason about the code.

Which languages can I learn?

For now there’s a JavaScript course and a Python course, and the daily challenge mixes JavaScript, Python and Java exercises. The plan is to add more languages, in the lessons and in the exercises, starting with a Java course.

What languages is the app in?

English and Spanish, and it switches to your phone’s language on its own. More languages are coming.

How does the streak work?

Only the daily challenge counts: the same exercise for everyone, played once a day with 3 attempts, win or lose. Miss a day and your streak goes back to zero. The day changes at midnight, Colombia time.

Does the app remind me about the daily challenge?

Yes, if you turn on notifications: at 7:00 pm (Colombia time) it lets you know if you haven’t done it yet, and again at 10:00 pm if you have a streak to lose. You can turn it off any time in Settings.

What are XP and coins for?

XP levels you up and coins pile up with every exercise you solve. The harder the exercise, the more both pay.

When is it coming out?

Very soon on the App Store and Google Play. The links will show up on this page as soon as it’s published.

How do I delete my account?

From the app, under Profile, Settings, Delete account. Everything is deleted right away. The details are on the delete your account page, at the bottom of this site.
